Galaga 90' Review
July 2011
After getting Galaga 90' for my Turbo Grafx system I discovered that THIS version of Galaga is THE best one ever! All others pale in comparison. All these years I was living like a damned caveman playing inferior Galaga games. Now, if you don't know what Turbo Grafx is, I'm really sorry for you. It's a really neat 16 bit system that came out before the Genesis and the Super Nintendo. The Turbo Grafx was not real popular here, but Japan really seemed to like it. They had a more extensive list of games released on theirs. There was even a Turbo Grafx CD system that I wish I had, maybe one day.
So anyway, back to Galaga. The colors are gorgeous and the sound is so much better than the arcade, and NES versions. The controls are really easy to figure out and it doesn't "stick" like the arcade version. At the beginning of the game you can play with one ship or two ships. If you choose to play with two ships it uses two of your lives, but it's totally worth it. The turbo Grafx has a turbo setting on their controller so you can keep your thumb on the shoot button rather than repeatedly pressing the shoot button and getting all tired and annoyed. As you progress through the different stages or levels they change it up a bit so it's not the same board over and over again. The bonus stages are really fun and you can get some crazy bonus points. Every time I play the high scores are beat, and even though I love video games, many of them I'm not so good at. If you're a fan of classic arcade style games and SHMUPS then Galaga 90' is the game for you. I'm sure ROMS of it exist, but then you're just stealing and you don't really own the game. You can download it onto your Nintendo Wii through virtual console, and hopefully on the 3DS in the future. To see a video of the game play CLICK HERE. Now That is Galactic Dancing!
