Marcon 46 review

2011

Located in Columbus Ohio, the same spot as Ohayocon each year, Marcon was a completely new experience for me. I've been to anime cons, and horror cons, but never Sci-fi. It all appeared to be Steam Punk and Doctor Who, which aren't bad things, but where's Star Trek? Star Wars? etc etc. It's comparable to going to an anime convention and having it flooded with Naruto stuff even though there's more to anime than that.

The Hotel, Hyatt Regency is really spacious and there were discussion panel rooms and movie viewing rooms as far as the eye could see. The bottom floor has a giant food court and Video game/comic book shop. My only complaint is the elevators taking way too long and breaking down. When your room was on the 12th floor it was a giant pain to walk up and down all those stairs especially with luggage. Some of the rooms were renovated previously so here's hoping the elevator situation gets corrected in the future.

I had the opportunity to work with Thomas Berdinski, director of various films including "The Giant Rubber Monster Movie", his sidekick and partner in crime, Tim Berdnt who has helped with many projects, and the very talented Horror and Sci-Fi author Richard Dean. Both Richard and Thomas contributed short stories to the "Curved Space" book. If you're interested, all of their books and movies are available online (plug alert, lol). My cosplay was "Stella Star" from the movie StarCrash and the book "Curved Space". Richard made the gun prop for my Stella outfit, thanks again, I loves it! Tom and Tim were also in costume on Saturday as Akton and Thor. We hosted different discussion panels throughout the weekend. Some of the topics were "sexy nerds", "Asian Horror", "Spaghetti Cinema" to name a few. I thank all those who attended and was pleased to make some new friends and new fans of our projects.
